Kath and Kim bring joy to residents

Mercy Place Warrnambool has two brand-new residents – a mural of a whale and her calf.

The mural, created by artist Emily Wright from AHKI Illustration, pays homage to the Southern Right Whales who visit Warrnambool’s waters every year from June to September.

“I’ve always found whales to be beautiful and majestic creatures. They are just magical and are a calming presence in nature.  Living by the ocean, I’m inspired and in awe of all sea life,” Emily says.

Beverley Stutchbury, Lifestyle Coordinator at Mercy Place Warrnambool, is thrilled with the final product.

“This captivating mural couldn’t have come to life without the support of generous donors from Mercy Health Foundation and the local community, we are so grateful for their support,” Beverly says.

Residents chose to have a whale and her calf as the artwork, and they have named them after the famous Aussie TV mother-daughter duo, Kath and Kim.

Enhancing the lives of her residents, Beverley says the mural brings new life to the community.

“It’s fantastic, the residents can view the beautiful artwork from the main living area. It brightens their days,” Beverly says.

The experience was heartwarming and affirming for Emily, being trusted with such a large project.  She said residents and staff were very kind and supportive.

“I really felt like care and compassion were the driving force behind Mercy Place Warrnambool. The fact that they have invested in a mural project like this to brighten the days of everyone shows the level of care they have for their community,” Emily says.

We are sure that Kath and Kim will continue to provide colour, conversation and calm for future residents, staff and visitors at Mercy Place Warrnambool.
